Ngorongoro crater was created after the Ngorongoro extinct volcano exploded and collapsed to form the Ngorongoro caldera seen today.

The Ngorongoro crater is 22.5km across and 2000ft deep and Ngorongoro was one of the world's tallest mountains before it collapsed.
